Magazine First Ideas

Here is the development process for my magazine; I would put all my ideas here and reflect on the decisions that I will make.

Reflection
Developing these ideas for my magazine was a really fun and creative session for me, although I find it quite difficult to carefully pick and think about what I would want for my magazine. I have made several ideas for titles and cover lines I carefully picked the best one and reflected on it. I think producing an original title and covering that no one has made and also picking the best option was the difficult part of my development as my options seem to be very limited.

Mini-Reflection

I decided that the title Grand Destination was the one I liked most. This title literally means luxurious places. I could use this name to target my middle to middle-high classes and make my magazine effective as they would like to experience a luxurious vacation around the world. I really like the title Wanderlust, but since it is already an existing magazine I cannot choose it. The rest of the options do not sound as attractive to me. Therefore I am left with the option of Grand Destinations and I will use it for my magazine title for now.

I will be choosing Wanderlust as my magazine name, as it is the name me and my teacher like best. Wanderlust literally means the urge or desire to wander around. For this magazine; the name wanderlust would be used as the urge to travel around; it sounds more adventurous and implies a magazine full of exciting adventurous places to visit.

Mini-Reflection
I am choosing this for my main cover line as this article and text could help me with producing the articles for my magazines. I think this cover for my double-page spread would be most realistic, as I have recently explored the city so I could put my own experience in a writer's voice for the article. Lots of the other titles were great ideas for me, but I lacked the ideas to put for the article and actually produce my own images for those articles.

Post Development Edit 

After taking a look at the pictures I am planning to capture over the holiday, I have decided to change my main cover line for the magazine. The pictures I will be taking are photos of a tropical Island near Bali called Nusa Lembongan. I have decided to change the theme and ideas due to the quality of the pictures I have in Japan being not professional and aesthetic enough - it would be impossible at this stage of the production to go back there and take more pictures. Therefore I have chosen Nusa Lembongan as the theme for my magazine; which is a small tropical island near Bali. 

The main cover line that I have thought of that matches the content I want will be "A Tropical Dive into Asia".  In my magazine, I would like to talk about scuba diving in that destination. This covering fits perfectly; as the wording 'tropical dive' includes both scuba diving and 'diving' into the cultures and activities in Asia.

These are the image ideas I am planning to capture. 

• Long shot low angles of tall buildings of a tourist spot in Japan (elegant styled)
• Delicious cuisine in the pictures I took in Japan
• 1 Large image of a landscape for the main cover: could be the beach, Ferris wheel, tall building, etc.
• High-quality; stunning images of traditional buildings in Bali. 
• Attractive tropical images of the beach, ocean and mountains
• Pictures of traditional buildings around Bali 

I would want my main cover image to show a long shot of one of the destinations so I could be able to show the beauty of the destination on a large scale. 

I would also want to try capturing images with a drone to be able to get a drone/bird's eye view of the location, to be able to show the destination wonderfully. 

Producing these images would be difficult; I might need to use a camera from my friend to take a photo shoot of these destinations so I could have high-quality images. I would also need my uncle's drone to be able to take the bird's eye view. 

Double page spread

My initial idea for my double-page spread would be for a famous travel writer to describe his week of staying in Osaka, sharing his experiences with the people and his thoughts on the places. The article would mainly contain his opinions about the places he visited in Japan. I would want to put the main images next to the article with white spacing between them.

A notable idea I would like to mention for the images in the double-paged spread is that there will be a background image of a map of the city of Osaka which I would draw. Then I would put an image of locations/landmarks with pinpoints on the map.
