This is my Weekly Progress
Week2
-This week we were introduced to the brief of the project, where we were instructed to make a 30-second ad storyboard for an existing product but to change the targeted audience.
-Started learning about the different target audiences such as demographic and psychographic, and I think this would be very important to our advertisement storyboard.
-Looked at an advert (Lynx) and analyzed each aspect of the ad is designed to attract the targeted audience
-Learned about different camera angles and shots, and how it's used to create meaning.
Week3
-Researched 3 adverts; multiple types to appeal to the audience; it helped and gave me ideas for what to do for my final storyboard and I'm starting to think that this project would require me to think and plan each frame's elements such as visuals, sounds, edits and etc.
-need to research 2 more ads as homework, 1 complete explanation, and 1 as a reference for our own adverts.
Week4
- Learned about mise-en-scene, and visual aspects of media such as colour, lighting, props, make-up, hair, set design etc; I'm starting to plan the visuals for my ad.
- Studied more about the different groups of audiences, Demographic and Psychographic;
- Finished the mini project experimenting with the camera angles and camera movement
- Started to get ideas for the advert: I want to make a RedBull ad: Starts with a Tokyo midnight race scene, engines revving, Speedy drag races - then cuts to a student in a room full of messy books who is day-dreaming
-I Need to finish the target audience which might require a lot of time to think about my ad completely.
Week5
-We started learning how to make the storyboard, what is needed on the storyboard such as the shot number, description, type of camera angles and movements and how to lay it out on the paper
-We learnt about the different types of sounds that are used in media which are diegetic, non-diegetic and trans-diegetic.
-We did the practice storyboard based on our mini-project.
-Was absent this week so most of the things i learned are from my friends.
Week6
-We made a technical analysis of the movie A Quiet Place, and we described and analyzed the sound, mise-en-scene and camera elements that were used in the movie
-We learnt about editing technical elements such as continuity, montage, cutaways etc.
-Our storyboard proposal got approved and we started working on it
Week7
-We did a text analysis of Peggy, in Captain America; a complete media analysis of technical elements of how the directors made Peggy look like she is mistreated.
-We had our Unit Test, and I think I did pretty well on it.
-Finished my rough storyboard, which my teacher approved and suggested a better idea for the slogan scene. I think the improvement to the scene would make the ad look better,
-Will start the final storyboard, I think doing it would be a little challenging
Week8
-We were introduced to and started the critical self-reflection work needed for the storyboard. It includes my opinions and how I improved throughout the project. I think my self-reflection would be quite challenging as it would require lots of time to think about how well I did my work.
-I continued the final storyboard, I think my drawings look quite good, pretty satisfied with it - however, I think I need to be able to draw faster as I only completed 3 scenes. The drawing was quite enjoyable however I think I put too much detail and I need to do my work at home
Week9
-We continued working on our storyboard and critical self-reflection; I didn't have enough time to finish everything in class; so I think I would need a lot more time at home to work on this project.
-We started learning about media theories such as the hypodermic needle theory, two-step flow and etc.
Week10
-I finished all of my storyboards during the weekend, and a big chunk of my critical self-reflection. I just need to finish that up and polish my whole blog to make it look more appealing and make sure everything is posted.
The weekly progress has helped me remember the things I need to do. I struggle with time management - and by looking back at my weekly progress- I can finish my important tasks quickly and use the remaining time to double-check my work and fix any mistakes.
From looking at my progress over the weeks - I can see how each week, I make progress in developing (new) skills and ideas I have for the project. I think that over these 10 weeks: the quality of my work on my storyboard, usage and understanding of media techniques (such as elements like mise-en-scene, edit, camera and sound) has gradually improved from day 1. Now I am able to effectively choose and use elements to make media effective to the audience I have chosen.
