This is my advertisement proposal to get an approvement from my teacher:
I am making an advertisement for the product: Red Bull Energy Drink. My target audience is students studying late at night. This is what my advertisement would look like: set in Tokyo Night, cars racing and people cheering a midnight racing-like theme - then it transitions to a student looking hyper-energized, holding a Red Bull can in his hand. The student is zoning out after drinking Red Bull, he's at his desk studying at midnight.
After reflecting on my idea and discussing it with my teacher, the new idea would look like this:
Start with a student studying at midnight, a clock showing his studies until 1. a.m. Then he starts to get really sleepy and falls asleep at his desk. The sound of him banging on the table matches cuts to his dream in a Red Bull race car; at night. His dream is full of energy, party engines revving and he's holding a Red Bull and taking a sip can in his car. Engine revving gets louder, and then the scene match cuts to him holding the can in his room. His eyes widen and he finally starts focusing on his studies. Then the final cut to a Red Bull slogan.
With the help of my teacher, I think that I have improved the flow and effectiveness of my advertisement storyboard so that it becomes more modern. It was pretty difficult coming up with this idea, as it took me a lot of research but now I think I am pretty happy with the rough idea of what I have for my project.
This is my video analysis of The Quiet Place
The text was an extract from A Quiet Place, the filmmakers wanted to show the audiences that it's a ghost town and that the world has gone silent. Additionally, the directors wanted to also show that the child was the only one making noises.
The filmmakers used technical elements to show that the town the characters were in, has become an abandoned or ghost town. At the beginning of the film, the director used several establishing shots with no movement to show the environment in that world; the static camera movement was used to show that nothing in the environment was moving or alive - the audience could infer that this town is ghosted or abandoned. The filmmakers also designed the environment to be messy, where items are scattered, the town is trashed and structures are collapsed, such as fallen traffic lights, and messy stores. This has connotations that the people have left, as there is no one taking care of the town. This emphasizes that the town in that world is abandoned; there is no one else. The filmmakers also directed the sounds of the movie so that only the environment made the diegetic sounds; sounds of leaves rustling and newspaper shuffling were the only diegetic noises that could be heard in the movie. This shows that there is no chatter in the world; further emphasizing the ghost, silent town - this is also shown by the characters using sign language.

1. Target Audience
Both genders(more towards boys as it features ninjas)

2. Message and Purpose
The whole ad's purpose was to entertain the audience watching it with comedy.
This ad shows that eating a snicker bar makes the famous actor Rowan Atkinson, and Mr Bean more energized - the company wants to show that this snack helps u feel more energized
This ad was made to make children(boys) want to eat the snicker bar so that they could feel like they transformed into a ninja - shown in the commercial
3. Meaning and Interpretation
At the beginning of the commercial, Mr Bean was very clumsy - falling down, crashing inside the buildings when trying to jump over the roofs. After eating a Snicker bar - he transforms into a ninja - energized and more athletic. This was done to show that eating a snicker bar makes you more happy, energetic and stronger; a way to convince the children to eat it.
4. Effectiveness
The commercial had a lot of comedy, where it shows the clumsiness of Mr Bean; an iconic and enjoyable actor to watch making the ad memorable to the young audience
Featuring Mr Bean in this ad will make children watch it - a very effective way to grab the audience's attention and watch the ad.
Most of the ad had nothing to do with the product; making it seem more like a mini-movie where children would automatically start paying attention and might get convinced to buy the product.
5. Personal Response
In my opinion, this ad is very entertaining for young audiences - especially if they grew up watching Mr Bean. The iconic comedy that Mr Bean displays makes the ad memorable and I would've got convinced to eat a snicker bar at a young age.
This is my Weekly Progress
Week2
-This week we were introduced to the brief of the project, where we were instructed to make a 30-second ad storyboard for an existing product but to change the targeted audience.
-Started learning about the different target audiences such as demographic and psychographic, and I think this would be very important to our advertisement storyboard.
-Looked at an advert (Lynx) and analyzed each aspect of the ad is designed to attract the targeted audience
-Learned about different camera angles and shots, and how it's used to create meaning.
Week3
-Researched 3 adverts; multiple types to appeal to the audience; it helped and gave me ideas for what to do for my final storyboard and I'm starting to think that this project would require me to think and plan each frame's elements such as visuals, sounds, edits and etc.
-need to research 2 more ads as homework, 1 complete explanation, and 1 as a reference for our own adverts.
Week4
- Learned about mise-en-scene, and visual aspects of media such as colour, lighting, props, make-up, hair, set design etc; I'm starting to plan the visuals for my ad.
- Studied more about the different groups of audiences, Demographic and Psychographic;
- Finished the mini project experimenting with the camera angles and camera movement
- Started to get ideas for the advert: I want to make a RedBull ad: Starts with a Tokyo midnight race scene, engines revving, Speedy drag races - then cuts to a student in a room full of messy books who is day-dreaming
-I Need to finish the target audience which might require a lot of time to think about my ad completely.
Week5
-We started learning how to make the storyboard, what is needed on the storyboard such as the shot number, description, type of camera angles and movements and how to lay it out on the paper
-We learnt about the different types of sounds that are used in media which are diegetic, non-diegetic and trans-diegetic.
-We did the practice storyboard based on our mini-project.
-Was absent this week so most of the things i learned are from my friends.
Week6
-We made a technical analysis of the movie A Quiet Place, and we described and analyzed the sound, mise-en-scene and camera elements that were used in the movie
-We learnt about editing technical elements such as continuity, montage, cutaways etc.
-Our storyboard proposal got approved and we started working on it
Week7
-We did a text analysis of Peggy, in Captain America; a complete media analysis of technical elements of how the directors made Peggy look like she is mistreated.
-We had our Unit Test, and I think I did pretty well on it.
-Finished my rough storyboard, which my teacher approved and suggested a better idea for the slogan scene. I think the improvement to the scene would make the ad look better,
-Will start the final storyboard, I think doing it would be a little challenging
Week8
-We were introduced to and started the critical self-reflection work needed for the storyboard. It includes my opinions and how I improved throughout the project. I think my self-reflection would be quite challenging as it would require lots of time to think about how well I did my work.
-I continued the final storyboard, I think my drawings look quite good, pretty satisfied with it - however, I think I need to be able to draw faster as I only completed 3 scenes. The drawing was quite enjoyable however I think I put too much detail and I need to do my work at home
Week9
-We continued working on our storyboard and critical self-reflection; I didn't have enough time to finish everything in class; so I think I would need a lot more time at home to work on this project.
-We started learning about media theories such as the hypodermic needle theory, two-step flow and etc.
Week10
-I finished all of my storyboards during the weekend, and a big chunk of my critical self-reflection. I just need to finish that up and polish my whole blog to make it look more appealing and make sure everything is posted.
The weekly progress has helped me remember the things I need to do. I struggle with time management - and by looking back at my weekly progress- I can finish my important tasks quickly and use the remaining time to double-check my work and fix any mistakes.
From looking at my progress over the weeks - I can see how each week, I make progress in developing (new) skills and ideas I have for the project. I think that over these 10 weeks: the quality of my work on my storyboard, usage and understanding of media techniques (such as elements like mise-en-scene, edit, camera and sound) has gradually improved from day 1. Now I am able to effectively choose and use elements to make media effective to the audience I have chosen.
This blog consists of a presentation contains our project brief and what we will do for our project.
